Computers and the EU - Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Directive

How many of us can really say we don't upgrade or disregard antiquated or depreciated computer equipment? My sons alone seem to constantly need to upgrade their equipment just to be able to play the latest games or run the latest software releases. Much of this equipment is of great use still to charities, people and organizations.

Our qualified technicians will not just see if a system base can be used...they can also use the good quality spare parts of old systems to rebuild new refurbished systems. We also build Bespoke systems for organizations using combinations of both new and old parts. Product testing at Proactive Computing is towards the highest within the refurbishment industry.

Just tipping your systems will almost certainly cost you as waste has to be handled differently due to the EU WEEE directive. If you wish to help our communities and overseas communities by donating working computer assets please give us a call.

For further information as to the WEEE directive and how it affects us in the UK please feel free to look at the following sites:

The computer pictured above is one of many that have been refurbished and given a new lease of life by Proactive Computing. Kindly donated by a local college we managed to refurbish this computer and make it available to charities for a song. The internal picture of the same PC is shown to the right. There are many UK and overseas organizations, charities and needy causes seeking equipment that we would normally see as waste...so why not help them out with Information Technology equipment. We’ll happily help refurbish good donated equipment where we can making your donation a valuable asset.

People and governments are now becoming increasingly concerned as to events like global warming, the amount of rubbish tipped into landfill sites and the amount of discarded recyclable waste. Now as of the beginning of this year pressures are racking up upon industry and individuals to try and be more environmentally friendly, and to recycle their items (both industrial and domestic) better.  The computing industry is particularly prone to producing large amounts of electronic waste often with little or no real resale value.

Text Box: This system has been
built-up completely from spare parts into quite a respectable computer.

In choosing a refurbishing centre or outlet we would like to request you to ensure that your donating to a reputable company where you can be assured of a professional service, and that your equipment will be going to help credible charities and
non-profit organisations.
